General & Family Dentistry
While many people dread going to the dentist, proper dental care does not have to include complex, painful procedures. Patients can minimize their visits to the dentist by practicing preventive dentistry. Preventive dentistry is the best protection against gum disease, tooth loss, and other dental conditions. Preventive dentistry requires a collaborative effort between patient and doctor to ensure proper care each and every day.
Preventive dentistry helps patients avoid the costly and invasive procedures that are often needed for serious dental conditions. Maintaining dental health helps patients look and feel their best and can positively affect their overall health as well.
Preventing dental conditions requires a lifelong commitment that usually begins with the appearance of the first tooth. Children should see a dentist shortly after the emergence of teeth to begin developing proper dental hygiene habits. Parents play an important role in helping their children develop and maintain these habits throughout childhood and early adulthood.

General & Family Dentistry
Your teeth are strong, durable structures that endure massive amounts of pressure each day. It is important to protect your teeth and keep them strong through daily brushing and flossing as well as regular professional care from a licensed and experienced general dentist.
General and family dentistry involves the diagnosis, treatment and prevention of a wide range of dental conditions for patients of all ages, as well as the maintenance of overall oral health. This comprehensive care from a general dentist is usually the only source of care patients require for their dental needs. There are several different dental specialties, but general dentistry encompasses the basics of these specialties.
Regular visits to the dentist are recommended at least once every six months in order to maintain proper oral hygiene and screen for any potential problems. Receiving regular checkups can help improve your dental health and prevent major problems from developing. These regular checkups involve a full mouth cleaning.
A dental checkup appointment may include X-rays which provide your doctor with full, detailed images of your teeth which helps detect early signs of decay or disease. These images help to determine any potential problems and decide upon the best treatment options.
We offer the following General and Family Dentistry services:
- Tooth Colored Fillings
- Dental Crowns
- Dental Bridges
- Full and Partial Dentures
- Periodontal Care
- Root Canal Treatment
- Night Mouth Guards
Nitrous Oxide Analgesia
Dental anxiety is a common type of phobia that affects people of all ages who may dislike undergoing dental treatment or simply visiting the dentist for a cleaning. Many people actually avoid going to the dentist because of this fear, and as a result compromise their dental health. Fortunately, there are several different sedation techniques available to help keep patients calm and relaxed during dental visits. Sedation safely allows patients to feel sleepy but still aware during treatment, so that they can be worry-free while receiving the care they need.
Some patients may be sedated using nitrous oxide, also known as laughing gas, to achieve the relaxed sensation. Dr. Cohen uses conscious sedation for those patients that may have anxiety or other fears, this state lets patients feel relaxed but also remain awake and able to respond to commands. Patients will not remember most of the procedure with this sedation, but can still respond to commands by the dentist, ensuring that the procedure is performed as efficiently as possible.
